5 months ago – Fri, May 10, 2024 at 04:22:50 PM

With only five days to go, we've reached the final stretch goal of 55,000 Canadian Dollars - meaning one thing:

We've now added the "Refugium Creature Companion" as an Add-on you can put on your order! Thank you all so much for your support!

ONE FINAL STRETCH GOAL (plus a lore-laden podcast)
5 months ago – Tue, May 07, 2024 at 12:04:24 PM

Now, as we get into the final week of the campaign, I have a final stretch goal to announce! If we hit 55k, I'll be doing a little print run of THE REFUGIUM CREATURE COMPENDIUM - a 32-page collection of all the incredible entries we got for the creature contest that didn't make it into the book!

It'll include 28+ entries, including stunners like these:

Lastly, if you want EVEN MORE GRIZ CONTENT, I had the pleasure of chatting Seth Jacob's ear off on his Comics Without Tears, which you can listen to on spotify or here on youtube:

Thanks for your support, and more news as we have it!

THE WINNER OF THE #REFUGIUM2024 CONTEST! (and T-shirts!!!)
5 months ago – Thu, May 02, 2024 at 08:40:15 AM

Hey everyone! Somehow, we're over 200% funded, with just under two weeks left - stellar turnout from everyone! With that in mind, I have a two announcements:

FIRST - WE HAVE THE WINNER FOR OUR ALIEN DESIGN CONTEST  - the great https://twitter.com/TheCountofS ! Choosing a winner was absolutely impossible, so Jordan and I battled mercilessly until we both exhausted ourselves - and found this charming walrus grappler, wriggling on the floor between us!

So, as promised, I spent a morning this week busting out a version of this same glorious beast to include in the book itself!

Huge congratulations to the noble count, both for his ingenious design and the free copy he's going to score!

NEXT - Stefan Tosheff and I had a little signing party for Miramar's release, over at Lucky's comics in Vancouver, and the noble FUTURE INK TRADITIONS brought me a pizza box full of test shirts:

The shirts fit great, and they look wonderful (we even sold a couple of the test shirts to fans at the signing!)

We'll have one final little announcement next week, so stay tuned!

STRETCH GOAL ANNIHILATION - DRAWING CONTEST - YOUTUBE
5 months ago – Fri, Apr 19, 2024 at 11:31:15 AM

FIRST - It is with great joy and excitement that I pass on the news to you, our noble backers - but we blew through all of those pesky stretch goals! The production of the book as incredibly fancy art object is now locked in and confirmed! A huge, huge thanks to all of you who have backed so far

But that's not the only development. SECOND - AN ANNOUNCEMENT FOR THE PEOPLE!

The timeline is a little tight for this impromptu alien design competition (mainly because i want to get all our files to the printer before end of april, to expedite the process and ensure timely book delivery) but a week to doodle a critter, and maybe win a book in the process? It's crazy, but it might just work!

(note - tumblr works too). Any skill level, and multiple submissions welcome!

AND LASTLY -

The big spec bio youtube homey, Curious Archive, just posted his little documentary about our book! He manages to succinctly cover a lot of the details I've only be obliquely referencing in-story, so it's lovely to see it all in one place.

Once again, thank you all for joining us on this epic little journey - and more updates as we have them!

GOOD LORD FULLY FUNDED!
6 months ago – Wed, Apr 17, 2024 at 09:08:11 AM

A huge thanks to you, the first soldiers to join the kickstarter - your support is heartwarming and frankly exciting as hell, for an independent artist like myself (and the team!)

First, to show my thanks, I wanted to share the first of several bits of the altamiran biota from Linnea Sterte - the ROKAMAKULO!

A truly transcendent aspect of this project, to be honest, has been seeing my absolute favorite artists basically designing the coolest pokemon for our setting. It's awesome.

Another piece, from the mastermind behind the ISLA PROJECT (which I would highly recommend to all you lovers of extraterrestrial biomes - exhaustively designed, utterly believable alien life forms, presented in video documentary format) is this funny little agricultural PSA:

Folks - don't let your genetically engineered super-goats languish under the cruel ministrations of these Altamiran parasites!

Lastly, a piece from two of my oldest comic amigos, Matt Sheean and Malachi Ward (of ANCESTOR fame, among many other things, designed this horrid, loveable freak - an interstellar invasice species, who snuck onto the planet from the bilges of some inattentive cultist settlers...

Anyways, thanks again, and stay tuned - we will have several pretty cool announcements coming over the next week or so (a new model kit, perhaps? A little contest?)

Stay tuned! GOD BLESS YOU, HEROES OF ALTAMIRA!
